Today’s preseason MLB baseball action saw a lot of scoring (as it typical in preseason MLB baseball). Here’s a breakdown of today’s action—scores and notes.
San Diego 1 @ Los Angeles 10
* Andy Ashby (SD) takes one on the chin. Ashby pitches 2 innings and gives up 4 hits and 2 earned runs. He also hit a batter.
Los Angeles 7 @ Atlanta 8
* Brett Tomko (LAD) had a solid outing. Tomko motors through two innings of work striking out one and putting down the side in order both times.
Toronto 2 @ Tampa Bay 4
* Matt Blank (TOR) gave away the game. It was smooth sailing for the Jays until Blank came in to pitch. In his lone inning, he gave up 3 hits and all 4 earned runs.
Chi White Sox 6 @ Arizona 13
* Jermaine Dye (CWS) went 2 for 3 including a dinger—2 RBI’s.
Milwaukee 6 @ San Francisco 2
* Jeff Fassero (SF) pitched one inning of work giving up 1 walk, 1 hit and 1 earned run. I can’t believe Fassero is still pitching for someone. He also stuck out one batter.
Houston 11 @ Cleveland 5
* C.C. Sabathia (CLE) gets hammered in his exhibition debut. Sabathia pitched 1 and 2/3rds of an inning giving up 2 walks, 6 hits and 5 earned runs. There were 2 additional runs scored on his watch, but there where unearned. He did strike out three.
Chi Cubs 15 @ Seattle 8
* Mariners’ pitching does them in. Julio Mateo (SEA) gets plastered in a lone inning of work. Mateo got roughed up for 5 runs on 6 hits. Following his lackluster performance was Dave Burba (SEA) who came in for 1.1 innings. Burba was tattooed for 6 runs on 5 hits and 1 walk. This dynamic duo accounted for 11 earned runs in just over 2 innings of play.
Baltimore 4 @ Florida 5
* Kevin Millar (BAL) went 2 for 3 including 1 RBI. His teammate Bruce Chen (BAL) pitched a solid 2 innings, striking out one and giving up no walks, hits or runs.
NY Yankees 10 @ Philadelphia 11
* Ryan Howard (PHI) has a monster day. Howard went 4 for 4 with 2 shots outside the park and he drove in 5 RBIs.
Washington 4 @ Pittsburgh 6
* Micah Bowie (WAS) blew the game for the Nationals. Bowie’s one inning of work was a disaster. He surrendered 3 walks, 3 hits and 5 earned runs. There was one unearned run scored as well. All 6 runs, and the game, went to Pittsburgh in that one inning.
Detroit 17 @ Cincinnati 10
* It must have been “Bust out a Stick” day. Carlos Guillen (DET) was 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs. Magglio Ordonez (DET) was 2 for 3. Chris Shelton (DET) was 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs. Brandon Inge (DET) was 2 for 4. Josh Phelps (DET) was 3 for 5 with 4 RBIs. Kody Kirklan (DET) was 2 for 2 with 3 RBIs.
Texas 6 @ Kansas City 7
* Phil Nevin (TEX) went 2 for 2 today with 2 RBIs. Nevin hit his 2nd homerun of the MLB exhibition season.
Cincinnati 9 @ Minnesota 1
* Edwin Encarnacion (CIN) had a multiple homer (2) day. He also went 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs. His three hits: Double – Homer – Homer.
