Nomar Garciaparra Improving Slightly

Nomar GarciaparraNomar Garciaparra is showing a slight sign of life. Of course, when you are one for twenty, there’s no where to go but up. It’s been some time since we checked in on Garciaparra and he’s had some hits since then. Garciaparra still remains a question mark for the regular season. While his average is starting to improve slightly, he is still struggling in spring training.

Garciaparra is starting to put in some work. He now has 44 at bats over 15 games. His batting average is up to .205 now. Out of his nine hits this spring training, only one has been for extra bases (a double). He managed to get his first RBI and he swiped two bases. Another concern for Garciaparra is his defense. He has committed two errors this spring training already. If you are not going to hit the ball, you better play some solid defense. Garciaparra is currently doing neither. It could be argued that his two errors were just lax mistakes made during spring training, but it’s something to keep an eye on.

Garciaparra did have a little up swing, but now that the real pitchers are getting more innings, it looks like his stats ascension will be short lived.
