[ Back Home ] June 2, 2006Eric Gagne ReturnsIt’s been a long time coming—for Dodger fans—but Eric Gagne make his return in Los Angeles tonight. The Phillies spoiled the night as they scored five runs in the 7th inning and eventually won 8-6, but many fans were probably more interested in Gagne’s return. It was perfect timing. Gagne’s return was before a sellout crowd of 55,142. How was his performance? It was pretty good. He pitched the 9th inning striking out one, giving up one walk and allowing no hits—Gagne-like. He’s had two right elbow surgeries in less than one year’s time, so it is uncertain how he will hold up over the season. If tonight’s performance is any indication, he’s back. When Gagne came into the game, the crowd went nuts. After the game Gagne said, “It was exciting. It was fun. The fans were pumped and I was pumped.” His return is perfect timing for the Dodgers who are making a push towards the playoffs. Perhaps for one night, the Dodgers losing did not matter as much to the home crowd. Tomorrow the Dodgers play game 3 of 4 with the Phillies. The series is tied 1-1. |
