Jose Guillen Escapes Surgery

Jose Guillen Washington NationalsJose Guillen, who was thought to be heading out the door, got a second medical opinion on Saturday. Surgery was determined to be a non-necessary procedure for Guillen’s injury. On Friday, Dr. Edward St. Mary recommended the tendon surgery that would have put Guillen out of baseball for up to three months—and possibly destroyed his year.

Second medical opinions should be looked at critically. Sometimes motives have their way of creeping into the decision. According to the Washington Nationals, “Guillen was given an injection in the wrist, which will be immobilized for 7-to-10 days, at which time he is expected to be able to being baseball-related rehabilitation.”

Guillen’s season is back on and that’s great news for the Nationals. Time will tell how serious this injury really is and how it will affect his performance.
