[ Back Home ] April 8, 2006Free Sports Pick: Oakland at SeattleMLB Free Sports Pick Tonight there is a game I like. It’s between the Oakland A’s and the Seattle Mariners. The game is going off at 9:00pm EST. The Mariners are at home and looking to take the series against the A’s—the series is tied 1-1 currently. Last night’s game was rather uneventful. King Felix did his best and allowed only one run, however the Mariners were dead at the plate. It looked as if the team basically took the night off. The bullpen of the Mariners continues to be a problem. They gave up a few runs again last night—not that it mattered. If not for a base running blunder by the A’s, the score would have been two runs higher. Tonight we get an interesting pitching match up. The Mariners are sending Jamie Moyer to the mound and the A’s are countering with Ervin Santana. This game is basically a pickup, which is, in my opinion, disrespectful to Moyer. However, the side is not the play here, the under/over is. The line on this game is currently at 8, which is kind of low in my opinion. Both of these teams can score and the fact that the Mariners were silent last night might signal a rush of scoring tonight. Here’s something interesting. Jamie Moyer, who is usually very good at home (2.95 ERA in 2005), struggled against the A’s last year. When facing the A’s, his ERA ballooned to 6.35. Add that to the fact that Moyer will probably only pitch 6-7 innings, which means the bullpen is coming in, and you have a recipe for runs. On the other side, we have Ervin Santana for the A’s. Who? Santana is making his first start of the year and his numbers from last year were anything but impressive. Santana’s ERA was a whopping 7.43 away last year. Could it get any worse? You know it can. When Santana faced the Mariners, twice, his ERA jumped to 9.72. Tonight he gets to face a Mariners team that is hungry to put up some runs and is fighting to win the series. The lines would have you believe that two top pitchers are going at it tonight, but the stats and reality show otherwise. Sure, the game could end under—anything can always happen. I am perplexed at why the line is this low. My guess is Moyer drove the initial thinking down from 10ish to 8. Even if Moyer pitches 7 great innings allowing only 3 runs, the bullpen of the Mariners still has to pitch for two innings and they have not showed any ability to shutdown anyone. Tonight’s game should be great and I am on the over of 8. MLB Free Sports Pick: A’s/Mariners OVER 8 |
