Last night’s game between the Tigers and Mariners was a low scoring affair. The Mariners made some minor league mistakes that cost them at least two runs. As a result, they lost 2-1. While both of these teams normally score more runs per game on average, last night’s low scoring game was expected given who was on the mound. The Mariners had sent perhaps their best pitcher to the mound and the Tigers sent a pitcher who is doing very well this year. However, tonight looks to be a different matter. Let’s take a look at this game.

Today’s match up features the LA Angels on the road at Oakland for the first game of the series. On the mound we have John Lackey (LA) and Rich Harden (OAK). The A’s are favored in this one (-142) and the under/over is 7.5. Both Let’s start breaking this game down and see what we have. The game is going off at 10:05pm EST.

One of the premier games today is the Seattle Mariners at the Boston Red Sox. The Mariners are 5-5 and head into Boston with Jamie Moyer taking the mound. The Red Sox, 6-3, are sending ace Curt Schilling to the mound in response. Looking over this game, I feel the line is pretty much accurate, but who in their right mind bets Curt Schilling at -220 against a team that realistically has a shot of winning? I sure don’t. This is one of those games where the smart bettor can create a ton of value and come out a winner not matter what the result is. Imagine you bet on the Red Sox at -220 and lose. Now you must win 2.2 bets just to get back to even. That’s not good. Let me show you how to win this game.

Tonight there is a game I like. It’s between the Oakland A’s and the Seattle Mariners. The game is going off at 9:00pm EST. The Mariners are at home and looking to take the series against the A’s—the series is tied 1-1 currently. Last night’s game was rather uneventful. King Felix did his best and allowed only one run, however the Mariners were dead at the plate. It looked as if the team basically took the night off. The bullpen of the Mariners continues to be a problem. They gave up a few runs again last night—not that it mattered. If not for a base running blunder by the A’s, the score would have been two runs higher.

Today, I am going with an early game—it starts at 3:05pm EST. The St. Louis Cardinals are at the Philadelphia Phillies. This is the final game in the three game series and the Cardinals have won the first two—barely. Today, the Cardinals are sending Jason Marquis to the mound and the Phillies are countering with Cory Lidle. The game is pretty much an even call either way. The Cardinals are a slight favorite at -101 to -110 depending on where you bet it. The Phillies are anywhere from +100 to -105.

I hit the selection with ease last night. In case you did not see it, you can see the write up [ here ]. The game went pretty much as predicted and the total sailed over. The Mariners scored 5 runs pretty early in the game and Pineiro gave up three runs (as predicted) before he left. Once the Mariners bullpen came in, even more runs were tacked on. It was a pretty easy call and just shows you what I always say—there are many “gifts” in sports lines, especially totals.

Here we are on day two and I have found a line that is not right—so I think. I normally don’t bet too much in the first 14 days of the MLB season. I like giving all the starting pitchers a couple of starts so I can better gauge what’s going on this year. Tonight’s MLB play is going off in a couple of hours from now so let’s get right to it.
