[ Back Home ] March 5, 2006Baseball Betting TipsBaseball betting is a fun activity that can yield monetary profits. However, most sports bettors fail to reach a high level of profitability in sports betting, because they ignore some fundamental concepts. Today, I am going to share some sports betting tips that can be applied to baseball betting as well as any sport. You might already know some of these, but it’s absolutely vital that you follow them to achieve your goals. These are great tips regardless of whether you bet at an online sportsbook or in the real world. Baseball Betting Tip 1: Don’t bet more than you can afford to lose. This tip is really a fundamental concept for all betting. If you are gambling with money you can’t afford to lose, your mind will not be clear. As a result, you will make bad plays and have a greater chance of losing. There’s an old saying, and some offshoots, that goes, “You can’t win with scared money.” Baseball Betting Tip 2: Don’t be an impulse sports bettor! Never bet a game unless you have taken the time to research it. Impulse buying is one sure way to lose your bankroll. I can’t tell you how many times I have thought a play might be right, initially, only to reverse myself upon further review. Don’t make a play just because some retired ball player is giving his “expert” pick. Baseball Betting Tip 3: Don’t chase wins and don’t chase streaks. I have lumped these two together, because if a sports bettor is victim to one, he or she will do the other as well. Never chase wins. If you lose, you lose. The next game is a new event and a chance to get back in the saddle. For all you know, there could be a ten game losing streak with your name all over it about to take place. Also, don’t chase teams on streaks. Some sports bettors, wrongfully, try to apply mathematical logic and assume that because a team has won or lost X games, they are due—no they are not. A very bad team can go on losing for infinity. A very good team can go on winning as well. Furthermore, teams go in slumps. If you chase, you will pay. Baseball Betting Tip 4: Don’t bet your house on a “lock.” The “sure thing” bet does not exist. You might have a play that you are really confident in, but it’s not a lock. You should never unload your bankroll on one event. There’s nothing wrong with adding a little extra to a play you are very confident about. However, you never want to put a large percentage of your bankroll on one play. Baseball Betting Tip 5: Learn to let the play go. Sometimes you will come across a play that just is not a good bet. Perhaps you know the N.Y. Yankees, at home, are going to beat up on the Detroit Tigers. However, so does the sports book. Upon checking you favorite play of the day, you are amazed to find the Yankees a $2.85 favorite. Should you make this play? I hope your answer is no. If your answer was yes or maybe, read this tip over again. You should always seek value for your money. If the line on a team just isn’t lining up, dump the play and move on. There will always be other days to bet on sports. Baseball Betting Tip 6: Try to figure out what the “public” might do. Knowing which way the public might go on betting lines is a crucial element to sports betting in general. Let’s look at two examples where not knowing which way the public is going could hurt you. Say, for example, you like the favorite, but don’t bet it right away. Along comes the public and they are all excited about the favorite today. By the time you get around to betting the team, the line has went up—possibly pushing you out of a play. Let’s look at one more example. You love the favorite and bet it right away. Along comes the public and they gobble up the underdog, which pushes the line lower. Had you known this and waited, you would have received a much better line and more value. I hope this article has given you some knowledge in the field of baseball betting. By adding these concepts to your baseball betting activities, you will have a better shot to profit over the long-term.
